The asters are going strong, providing that last bit of color in the perennial beds. The bees love them.

The goldenrod looks cool in this picture, although in the direct sun it is more that autumn glow than cool blue.

The bees keep working even when the temperatures make them sluggish. I unwittingly carted one into the house Sunday on a small bouquet. The bee fell into the sink, so I coaxed it onto a leaf and then it climbed onto my hand. I carried it back outside and tried to get it onto a flower, which wasn't easy because it was dopey from the cold.
It finally crawled onto a verbena blossom.
