Happy 1st, Kai

On Jan. 2, 2009, he came to us as Pepper - we renamed him Kai. He looked pretty small and scared on the ride home (above) and those first few weeks were trying for him and us.

But then he began to settle in and promptly took over. He has an abiding affection for toys, the soft, fuzzy kind that squeak and are wiggly.

He went lots of places and learned lots of things, and nearly walked his mom to death.

He discovered the joys of gardening.

He learned that playtime is best with lots of toys around you.

He liked to stop and smell the flowers ... or plants ... or just the breeze.

And by year's end, he was back in snow again, romping and roving and rolling.

Happy anniversary, Kai.

With love to all his rescue folks.

What a wonderful group of pictures for Kai's first year. Thank you for opening your heart and home to this boy. It makes our day to continue to see him happy and healthy. A match made in heaven.
